The Old Museum

Belfast’s first museum was established privately by a group of enthusiasts who formed the Belfast Natural History & Philosophical Society and commissioned the Old Museum building in College Square North Belfast in 1831, designed by the architects Duff & Jackson.

It is still owned today by the BNHPS, but while awaiting investment to provide a lift and other improvements to enable public access, the building is considered to be at risk. Hearth was commissioned in 2013 to design and install railings to replicate those that had been taken away during World War II, and the work was funded by Belfast City Centre Management.
