Stonework revealed

As part of the work carried out using a Heritage Resilience grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund, Hearth was able to scaffold the front elevation of Riddel’s Warehouse in the autumn of 2019 and carry out a careful investigation of the condition of its stonework, with Alastair Coey Architects and The Rock masons.

The variety of materials used in the facade can now be clearly seen, including sandstone, granite, limestone and red and black bricks. The massive carriageway doors were also extensively repaired and rehung, helping to maintain these aspects of the building while the full restoration is awaited.
