Welcome to our new Community Engagement Officer

Please welcome Jason Burke to the Hearth team.

Jason will be taking on the role of Community Engagement Officer on the Riddel’s Warehouse project. Jason comes to us with 15 years of experience working in the heritage sector for various organisations including National Museums Northern Ireland, Linen Hall Library and Clifton House.

Having studied Modern History at Queen’s University Belfast at both undergraduate and postgraduate level, Jason was awarded the James E. Todd Prize for the highest scoring Masters dissertation written on an aspect of Irish history.

Jason is highly regarded and well-known in the field of history and heritage, particularly in Belfast, and for the last 15 years he has been engaged in researching, writing, and engaging with groups across the country on aspects of Irish and local history. He has spoken at many important events and venues and his contributed to several publications including the Irish Historical Studies journal.

His passion for history and making it accessible is evidenced through the continued success of the Historical Belfast Podcast (of which he is the host), and his ever-popular articles for the Belfast Telegraph since 2021 including a recent series on the history of Belfast streets.

Jason is excited to get stuck into the role and looks forward to engaging with as many people as possible on the Riddel’s Warehouse project.
